The purpose of Civics education in the United States is to help develop informed and responsible citizens.

This Civics course will include the following topics from the Michigan Merit Curriculum, which was developed for all required high school courses in Michigan:
+Conceptual Foundations of Civic and Political Life
+Origins and Foundation of U.S. Government
+Functions of U.S. Government
+Citizenship in the United States and Citizenship in Action
